Interview with Kathi Pickett
Author of On Becoming You
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I was born in Gloversville, New York and now reside in Feeding Hills, MA.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
My father was in the military and we traveled the east coast and settled in the area I now reside after he retired from the Navy.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
My clients encouraged me to write down my teachings for their healing and spiritual development. Although there are many wonderful books out there, I decided my voice was unique and could reach many more people. Our world needs healing and tools to keep us track.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
On Becoming You, is my story of a debilitating illness and a journey to heal myself through spiritual growth and an understanding of mystical and energy laws. Many stories of the afterlife and energy healing bring to life the possibilities for all of us to live the life we are meant to live.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
Anyone seeking spiritual growth, healing and a desire to find happiness in the midst of chaos and conflict. There is always peace within, the book guides people to their own innate wisdom.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
Even with the plethora of new-age books on the market, so many people are still unaware of how to ignite their own innate wisdom and intuition. Through an understanding of the afterlife, many people had emailed me to thank me for the book. They found peace and could release grief. Parents thanked me for a better understanding of how to deal with their adult children with substance abuse and mental illness.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
To scribe more sessions in real-time with detail to give life to the stories.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
Well now, why limit the possibilities with a number. Thousands or more.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
Finding speaking engagements to promote the book.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My book is written from my heart and comes across as genuine and caring. Simple messages.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
I have limited knowledge of marketing, publishing, and social media.
When do you think you will write your next book?
The book is being written within me as I explore deeper concepts with clients. The first book is more of a primer with general concepts, there is so much more to write about.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
I am self published.
