Interview with Janelle Garner
Author of Lost Legend of the Tude Shifters: The Journey Begins
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I was born and raised in Ogden Utah, and now reside in Clearfield Utah
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
My journey started 25 plus years ago with my daughter. I have been a single parent for over 40 yrs. now. When my daughter entered high school she became very frustrated with school and wanted to drop out. This concerned me so much that I decided to go to her school and see if what she was telling me was the truth. I was shocked to learn how right she was, not that I didn’t believe her but it was different when I went to school and couldn’t believe how bad things had gotten in the educational system. It was then I knew I what direction I needed to go and I did just that. My uncle was the Assistant Superintendent of the school district that my daughter attended at that time. I then started to do a lot of research on our educational system and what I learned was it was failing and getting worse every year. I developed a strong passion to find a way to develop a new learning system to help our communities grow and become more productive. And so my journey began and I spent every bit of free time I could into developing a new learning system that would enhance our children’s creativity resulting in a more positive attitude. We have now a new learning system called EIT (Emersion Interactive Technology) the first 3D whole brain learning system.
It has now been over 25 years ago that started my journey and this is how the world of the Tude Shifters was born.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
We decided to create a world of characters that could teach children that they all have special talents. We created the world so that we could develop a self-sustaining educational learning system that gives back to the community. The world of the Tude Shifters is more than a book it’s about teaching kids and adults how to create a new lifestyle.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
The world of the Tude Shifters will take you on many journeys. You will go through portals to different worlds learning how talented and gifted each and everyone of us are. The Tude Shifters have their own language called Oppeldoppel and inside the book you will find a magic decoder that you will have to use to decode secret messages from the Tudes. There are riddles and a lot of fun inside the world of the Tude Shifters.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
We have had children and adults who have both enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read the next one. Tude Shifters is a series of 8 books.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
I learned I am a good storyteller and I also learned that when you allow yourself to develop something to help others succeed the rewards are priceless.
If you could, what advice would you give to past self yourself before embarking on this journey?
Make sure you have a clear vision of what you want to do and how it will help others. Then set a goal to make it happen. Writing a good book takes a lot of dedication.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
We would honestly like to reach as many people as we can. The world of the Tude Shifters was created to change education and make learning fun but effective inside a world where only peace and harmony exist.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
There will be a lot of re-writes and changes to your story as you develop it. It can become a bit frustrating because you really want to get your gift to others out there as soon as you can, so you can help people.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
I am very good at story telling and have since I was a child. I have a very big imagination for creating worlds with unique characters.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
However when it comes to all the proper punctuations and proper English, well this is not my strong point. But I have a great editor who helps me with everything
When do you think you will you write your next book?
We are currently writing the next book in the Tude Shifter series
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
I started out self-publishing, but I was recently picked up by a main stream publisher. We are republishing the book with updated pictures and a new comic book series based on the Lost Legend children’s book series. The book and the new comic boo series will be available this fall.
