Interview with Edward Green
Author of Year of the Cicada
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I’m originally from Rockport Texas and currently reside in Kiowa Colorado.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
The 1st time Colorado crossed my path was when my school went to a HECE convention in Denver. In 2001 a former relationship brought be back to the state where I spent the next 4 years being single and getting to exploring this wonderful place to me hearts content. Then everything changed in 2017 and unexpected circumstances allowed me to move back permanently.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
I finally accepted the fact that I love to write and no longer wanted to deny that part of myself which brings happiness and puts a smile on my face.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
Readers are going to be shocked and pleasantly surprised by the depths of emotions that will be pulled from their hearts and minds.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
I feel that the Horror, Writing Community and those unnamed and wanna-be Wednesday and Pugsley Addams’s are going to Devour every last delectable drop of darkness from my novels and kid books.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
The unexpected came when I had to learn the hard way that making sure to save and back up your work needs to be Priority one. When it came to publishing, the shock there was the fact that it could take 6 months before you might hear back from someone.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
There will be much blood, sweat and tears spilt before that final, the end, is typed out. Be patient, be protective of your work and know that not every writer you seek out for advice has your best interest at heart. Many of them are seeking a short cut and will use your foundation for their success. So, tread lightly.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
LOL, My goal is Planetary Domination. But, until then, I’ll settle for at least half of Steven Kings fan base.
I’m his biggest fan.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
My biggest challenge and frustration is being an unknown author and not having the financial ability to get my name, image and bodies of works into the public’s hands.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest strength pertaining to writing is my ability to have the beginning, plot and ending to a story pretty much laid out before that 1st word hits the page. My strength in publishing is do to the immense belief and support my publisher has in me. When it comes to marketing, that strength comes from the falls, scrapes and bruises I received while clawing my way through social media.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest weakness, like most writers, is procrastination. When it comes to publishing, that weakness is do to my lack of patience as I wait for my publisher to get back to me after a submission do to those other authors who are in line ahead of me. My weakness pertaining to marketing is pretty simple, I’m the epitome of the broke and starving artist. I don’t have the financial ability to promote myself nor my literary accomplishments.
When do you think you will write your next book?
Working on it right now.
M.A.D is my 1st unfinished novel and after 30 years, while still toting around my hand written notes, I’ve finally begun to tackle the insanity that is required to tell Malphas’s story.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
Since the doors to traditional publishing seem to require a golden ticket, I went with a Great Indie company called Breaking Rules Publishing that is ran by Christopher Clawson Rule.
