Interview with Tani Parker
Author of The Voice of Glory Thunders
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I have always lived in the beautiful state of South Dakota. It’s kind of a hidden paradise in my opinion.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
I still live in South Dakota and love it.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
A time came when I found journaling for my own spiritual and mental healing to be extremely beneficial. It has been one of the major tools that God used to set me free from a life of darkness and shame.
Praying seemed too difficult and believing a loving and listening God would actually hear and answer me felt impossible until I discovered the ease of writing out my thoughts to God and likewise, writing down what I thought to be His thoughts back to me. Through this process I began to experience peace, joy and a genuine love for myself and others. This opened my eyes to the pain so many other people carry as well. It’s a deep pain that I believe only the voice of God can penetrate and heal. I found a sincere desire growing in me to help others come to recognize this same healing voice that always has been speaking to them. That desire gave birth to this devotional.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
My prayerful intent is to put a tool in the reader’s hand that will enable him to clearly recognize and know he hears God’s voice.
It is an invitation to go on a year long journey with me. We will start each new month with a challenging yet encouraging article. Continuing with the same theme, I share a weekly prophetic word that will hopefully open up hearts to a daily scripture with meditations and insights that invites the readers to journal or record their own God inspired thoughts.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
I believe people who have a genuine desire to experientially know God will connect with this book.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
I learned that I wasted a lot of time talking about writing a book “someday”. When I intentionally set time aside to write, it actually happened.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
Don’t procrastinate and have fun being creative.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
At least 1 million.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
It seemed to me like the editing process drug out way too long.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
Writing-I have always loved to read and the ability to paint pictures with words fascinates me, therefore writing seems easy and fun.
Publishing-A friend who recently started her own publishing company offered to publish my book so I really did not need to Know much about publishing.
Marketing- As for marketing, that is where I am lost. I am just now prayerfully looking for answers and ways to successfully market my book.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
Lack of knowledge and experience.
When do you think you will write your next book?
I have already started. It is a book of hope and encouragement for those times we face adversity and pain. I want to include a download to a song my husband and I wrote titled “When giants knock” which is also the title of the book.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
Kelly Whitaker, an independent publisher of Red Door Sentinel, formatted and published my book.
