Interview with Lloyd Acree
Author of The Choice of A Savior
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
South Carolina. I’ve lived in many states however, all on the east coast save Oklahoma.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
I was raised in a military family and joined the Marine Corps out of high school myself, so the journey started at my birth and never stopped.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
I felt compelled to share a story of deliverance by my testimony of escaping from false doctrine.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
The first part is my testimony of breaking through religion to find a healthy personal relationship with Christ, and the second part is a Bible study investigating how that testimony accords with hermeneutics or “rightly-dividing” the Scriptures.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
Anyone pursuing deeper understanding of biblical theology: particularly that of Paul’s epistles and insight into the workings of salvation through Christ.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
Editing is like the movies: every page of draft needs about 60 times the effort in fine-tuning!
If you could, what advice would you give to past self yourself before embarking on this journey?
Write the book independently long before contacting anyone.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
Millions. I want everyone studying complex theology to read this book for its emphasis on balancing an interactive relationship with Christ over the all-too-common distractions of academic “certainty”. That is, we’re certain of very little without the lead of God’s Spirit to unlock His Word for us.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
I had a short timeline agreement with the publisher and it was far too little for the editing I needed to keep batting around, all while working 6 day-weeks on a security gig overseas. I kept emailing them. They probably wanted to shoot me.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
I enjoy writing the most which I have continued contributing on 444ProphecyNews.com for free, if you are interested in my other work.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
I’ve had some serious hurdles between myself and the marketing process both with geography and limited resources. Even the publishing was through a narrow channel of email until I returned to the USA, so marketing is a NASA project by comparison.
When do you think you will you write your next book?
I haven’t thought of doing so just yet. It would be a continuation into the next steps of my faith development–a plateau, if you will–from which I’ve been able to continue serving the Lord with that “certainty” I mentioned earlier.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
I contacted Xulon Press and worked with them directly on a publishing package deal.
