Interview with Linda Johnson

Author of A Fresh Start/Begin To Pray

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

I am originally from Mississippi, and currently reside in Jackson.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I was going through some things and struggling with other. I was still praying and asking God for directions. He impressed upon my heart to write the book of prayers because there were others that may be going through the same thing or something similar; to let them know that you can always start over with your trust in Him.

How would you describe your books to first time readers?

I would describe my book as a book of hope for whatever you are going through, its a start in the right direction.

Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?

Those that are looking hope, peace, or just want to read or pray to encourage themselves. People who love to read what others have written to spark them to write.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

What was un-expecting for me was the time you have to commit to writing, writing with a font that was readable, even the trial of deciding on a publisher.

If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?

Making sure I had more time, and being able to have fewer distractions. Now, I understand why writers have to go to a nice and secluded place to write.

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

As many as possible, especially to those who love to read.

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

Biggest challenge and frustration were not having the funds to really market my book even to this date. But, I am determine to make that happen in the near future by the grace of the God.

What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

My biggest strength is putting words on the paper. I have found that there are a lot of options to publishing and marketing; the key is finding the right source that won’t break you before you book becomes known.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

Biggest weakness in those areas having the right environment, selecting the wrong publisher and marketer.

When do you think you will write your next book?

I have started another book but have put it aside until I am able to really focus on completing it. So, hopefully soon I will be able to do just that.

Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?

I used a traditional publisher. I probable searched out other options that I feel will be beneficially to me and my book.
