Interview with Kelsey Cheyenne

Author of Selfless

Selfless

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

I’ve lived in a small town in southeast Pennsylvania my entire life.

If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?

I’ve pretty much lived in the same town my whole life. My family is here and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I’ve always loved writing stories and I always had my nose buried in a book. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s true. One day I just decided it was time to put myself out there and I haven’t looked back since.

How would you describe your books to first time readers?

I’m still finding my footing, so I have a little bit of something for everyone. There’s romcom, suspense, and even women’s fiction.

Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?

I put a lot of myself in my stories, so probably people around my age. I have stories featuring boy-obsessed teenagers and even single moms. I fall somewhere in the middle so my stories could relate to a range of women.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

This will sound funny – but how characters really have a mind of their own. I know it’s all coming from *my* mind, but sometimes the characters you create don’t want to cooperate and they want to take you on their own journey. The importance of listening to your characters through it all was very unexpected!

If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?

Have multiple books written before publishing your first! I cannot stress this enough. I was told it and didn’t believe it and now I’m kicking myself for it!

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

Is it wrong to say as many as possible? LOL. Some of my books, like My Almost and Selfless, come with an important lesson that I’d love to share with as many people as possible!

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

Personally, I have an awful memory! It’s so hard for me to remember all the minute details about my characters and locations that I often get mad at myself.

What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

I write women that get put through the wringer and come out stronger on the other side. In publishing, just being brave enough to put myself out there is a strength in itself! And I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best at marketing, so I’ll hire promo companies to help spread the word.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

I’m an epic procrastinator! I force myself into a corner and then have to race to get the writing done, but I can’t seem to change. For publishing, I don’t think I write or publish fast enough to keep up with the market. And I need all the help when it comes to marketing and ads!

When do you think you will write your next book?

I’m always working on my next book, but I think January 2020 might be my next release!

Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?

I’m fully self-published on amazon and kindle unlimited at the moment.
