Interview with Ginger Dannhaus
Author of Giving Glory to God
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I am originally from Brenham, Texas. I was born and raised there. But through prayer, a I now reside in Dripping Springs, Texas.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
We are in Dripping Springs, Texas, because my husband and I have had a desire to have a big ranch somewhere in the hill country to use for the Lord. A place where people can feel the peace of God, get set free, and healed by the power of God. I’ve been praying for years and it was an illness that struck me that brought me back to my knees. As I was in my chair, not being able to do much at all, is when God spoke to me that it was time to move. Give up all and follow Him to the place He has for us. So that is what we did, sold our place and went after the Lord. I heard the town of Dripping Springs years back as I would write in my journal. But we just didn’t come straight here. We bought an RV and traveled around searching for the land. We ended up out on a ranch place out in Junction, Texas area that my husband and son were working on doing clearing. But I kept hearing inside my spirit, it’s not here, and we were to move or God will allow something to make us move. We stayed there a few months. Then the storm came, softball size hail, winds, and tornadoes that destroyed our vehicles, and our RV’s. That’s when we started searching and ended up in Dripping Springs. The gateway to the hill country. It was the only place we could find to fix our vehicles quickly due to the storm. I learned sometimes the storm and winds come to push us to another place. It was here my husband and son got jobs within a week of us coming here. Then we found a five acre tract to build a cabin. I know this is only temporary, for God has a bigger place for us. We are just at peace waiting for the next steps.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
We were in a rental place trying to find our way, when I heard the Lord so clear say, it’s time to get that book out. My testimony needed to get out there to help others. I had lost my mother when she was just fifty-three years old. My father was deceived by another woman and left also. So I lost my mom and then my dad left with another woman all in the same year. It broke my heart and left me searching for a better way. That’s when God became real in my life. He woke me up. I started to journal and hear Him very clear. He started showing me all things that was going to happen before it happened with my father and with my family. I was so drawn into to the Lord because it was such a peace like I had never known before in my heart.
Then years later suffered an autoimmune problem that left me lifeless and in a chair for about six months. I knew God wanted me to tell people how I overcame all life struggles and help others do the same through my book.
As I started writing my book, I found it was so much healing for me to write and express it all. It was a constant flow as God helped me with all I was to write. I’ve gotten stronger and have become a better person through it all. Now I feel God has me to help others and encourage them through my writings and encouraging words.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
It is real life lessons and stories that will help you get through some of the trying times in your lives. We all can learn from others who have gone through life overcoming the challenges they have endured whether it be an illness or loss of a loved one.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
I feel anyone at any age can relate to what I’ve written in my book. Many have lost loved ones and many people have had illnesses that had hit their families or friends.
It’s a very encouraging book that will lift your spirit. It’s life lessons that will encourage you.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
I learned that writing has so much of a release of healing for your soul and spirit. Also, I’ve learned that you don’t have to be perfect to do the things God has called you to do. Just be obedient and let God do the rest.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
I would just take one step at a time and not be overwhelmed when things don’t go as I thought they should. Just enjoy the journey wherever it may lead and have peace of mind. Because our steps are truly ordered by the Lord even the ones that we don’t understand. Sometimes we can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if we will keep moving forward you will get there. We don’t need to park in the valley, but go through it.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
As many as I could.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
I think my biggest challenge is just getting all things together and learning how the process goes with writing. I didn’t know anything so I had to truly lean on God for guidance.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest strength is I journal everyday. I love to hear from God and write down what I hear. I believe God has trained me over the past twenty years to hear His voice so I can write as He speaks. That helped me even as I wrote this book. He gave me all the stories I needed to put in this book along with the other parts I was to add. I used a self publishing publisher that helped me through a lot of the process.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest weakness is not knowing anything about getting a book together. I prayed and found a self publishing company. They really helped me but it was truly God that had to do all this. I had no idea of what I was doing. I just started writing. Then after it was done, I didn’t know a lot on how to market it. But my daughter-in-law helped me with getting it out there.
When do you think you will write your next book?
I have a couple I am working on, but haven’t finished anything yet. I’m praying this next year to have another one out.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
I used a self publishing company that helped guide me.
