Interview with Christine Hoderfield
Author of The Search
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
Cecil County Maryland, and I still live here.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
I was on a Search looking for a missing patient and I have a very overactive imagination during that time. It was a very eerie search. When I got home I had this idea of the book and it would not leave my mind until I wrote it down. So I research on how to write a book and how to publish one.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
Its base at a hospital setting, A search for a missing patient gone horribly wrong.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
Anyone who likes to read, mysteries.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
The most surprising thing I found that once you have your story in the computer and you think you have enough to be considered to be a novel until you look at your word count. I found it very hard to elaborate and to stretch work to meet the required word count of 50,000 words without steering off the story.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
keep searching for publishers and try and submit to all and don’t second guess yourself.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
Everyone would be great, but I am just happy I did this experience. I found that I like writing stories and found another piece of myself while doing it.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
Editing. To get a good editor cost a lot of money. I luckily had a English Professor who to the job for me. But now I have a second book and again looking for a editor.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My Imagination and coming up with different scenario to write is my biggest strength.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
Publishing, the company I went with was not great and no longer are in business.
When do you think you will write your next book?
I wrote a second book already but it just needs editing and revising the edits.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
Hybrid, but soon self published.
