Interview with Michelle Kee
Author of Blackstone’s Heart
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Currently me and my family are living in Cridersville, Ohio.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
After my husband got out of the Marines, he began working on wind turbines. For ten years he worked for one company, then in 2017 he changed to a different company so we could move to Ohio. His family is from here and ever since he moved to Texas as a kid he always wanted to move back.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
I’ve always been an avid reader and when I was about 16 I started writing fanfiction. I decided to write and publish my first book back in 2014. It was a long road since I was working full time then but by 2016 I was a stay at home wife and mom again and figured that was a good time to do it.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
Romance with a bite mixed with action.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
Since the men of my series are Marines I would love to be able to connect with the military wives or girlfriends. I also feel my books would connect with anyone who just loves steamy romance and action.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
I learned that as an indie author, the indie publishing world is a lot like being back in high school. There are author cliques and if you get on their bad side or they feel you’re encroaching they let you know big time.
Yet on the flip side, I’ve also learned there are many authors who are amazingly supportive of new authors and will offer help, advice or even just a friendly ear when you need it.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
You better tighten up your boots, it’s a hard road.
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
As many as I can. Lol.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
Not having the support of my husband. He sees this as a hobby and I’ve learned since I started this not to include him on research or just general questions.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest strengths when it come to writing would have to be my never ending imagination. For publishing, I’d have to say it’s my mom since she’s my biggest fan and has encouraged me on it since day one. Marketing, well I’m not sure since I’m still learning that as I go. Because I love to talk that’s my biggest strength since I’m always talking about my books.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest weakness is the same for writing, publishing and marketing, self doubt.
When do you think you will write your next book?
I am currently writing my third book in the Blackout Security Inc. series which will be titled The Flame of Carson.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
I am self published through Amazon. My ebooks are in Kindle Unlimited.
