Interview with William P. Robertson
Author of Fear Is Forever
Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?
I grew up in Bradford, Pennsylvania and currently live a few miles from there in Duke Center, Pennsylvania.
If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?
I moved to Duke Center when I took a teaching job there.
What made you decide to write and publish your first book?
I was always shy as a child and as a young man. I began writing to express feelings and thoughts I could not verbally express.
How would you describe your books to first time readers?
My books are written in everyday language and are filled with sensory details that allow the reader to better experience the story. My specialties include historical fiction and Gothic horror.
Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?
Anyone who likes to read about the Civil War, the French and Indian War, or ghostly encounters.
What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?
That marketing is the most difficult and important part of the whole writing process.
If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?
Be prepared to thoroughly edit your work and polish it to a high sheen even if it takes up to thirty-five edits!
How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?
I would like to reach a million people.
What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?
Getting my publisher to fill my book orders in a timely manner has been my biggest frustration. I’ve lost a ton of sales because the publisher takes too long to send me the books I need before my scheduled public appearances.
What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
My biggest strength is the self discipline needed to finish writing a book. I work on it every day until I get it done.
What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?
I still need better marketing to reach a bigger audience.
When do you think you will write your next book?
I’m working on it now.
Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?
Some of my books are self published and some have a traditional publisher.
