So you’ve finished your manuscript. Congratulations! But that’s just a step in the publishing process. You may have decided on self-publishing your book, considering the demanding nature of traditional publishing. Admit it: traditional publishing takes too long and authors who are excited to get their books out there just can’t wait it out.

It’s imperative to really read a lot if you want to become a better writer. A voracious reader gets to improve his choice of words, writing style, and the proper voice necessary for successful writing. What you read will serve as your weapon in writing. So, read as many materials as you can as it is one of the essentials to being a great writer.

Before we get to the purple problem, what is prose? To refresh your memory, opposite to poetry, prose is a language form that expresses spoken or written language in its natural state. Compared to a metrical structure, such as haiku poetry, prose gives a writer more freedom.

Imagine being pumped up for writing that story you’ve been conceptualizing for weeks. You’d want to just open your laptop and bleed. But then, as you go about doing so, you realize you just don’t know where to start!
