Release. Relate. Refresh. Renew. Becoming A Better You

Where are you from originally and where do you reside now?

“I am at Texas girl living in an Ohio World”
I am originally from Arlington, Texas. I currently reside in Columbus, Ohio.

If you currently reside somewhere besides where you were born, what’s the story that lead from there to here?

God. That’s the complete truth in one word. Two years ago, He let me know that I would be relocating. He didn’t give me an alternate choice. Even though I was skeptical, I decided to take the faith walk not knowing what would happen. All I knew is that God had never failed me. I left my job of 23 years and went to a place with no job, family or friends. He took care of my needs, right down to where I would live. He took care of me every step of the way. He moved me to develop me the way He created me to be and write the way He wanted me to write without distractions.

What made you decide to write and publish your first book?

I have always had a passion to write it started with poetry before transitioning into other areas. It wasn’t until 2009 that I released my first book, A Refreshing Look at Psalm 91. It started as a blog and grew in such a way, that a lady suggested I make it into a book. When God allowed that seed to plant within my spirit, it took off. My first book did things I could never imagine, reaching people I never considered it reaching. My second book, Release. Relate. Refresh. Renew. Becoming A Better You, was originally released in February 2017 before both were re-released September 2018 under my publishing company, NSpire Publishing. That book is a collection of articles I had written throughout different seasons of my life.

How would you describe your books to first time readers?

When you pick up one of my books, you are picking up a manuscript that will encourage, uplift and motivate you into being the best version of yourself that God created you to be.

Who do you feel is most likely to connect with the topics you write about?

I feel as if everyone who reads my books will find at least one topic to connect with. Women who feel underappreciated and worried about any and everything will find peace. Men who feel discouraged and tired as they stand quietly on the ledge of their life will find joy. Teenagers who feel as if they are misunderstood and lost will find hope.
Everyone will be able to draw something from my writings.

What unexpected or surprising thing did you learn during the process of writing and publishing?

During the process of writing and publishing, an unexpected surprise for me was learning that there is more to me than I ever knew. When I write for God, He takes it and not only gives me something for others, but boomerangs it back to me. I get something too. I learned that the publishing part is not as scary as I thought it would be when I research and learn to pray and ask for help and direction with things that I don’t know.

If you could, what advice would you give to your past self before embarking on this journey?

The advice I would give to my past self is to do it in fear. That’s the way you move from fear to faith. Just trust God and go forth. I would tell my past self that what’s to come is so much greater than what fear tries to make me believe.

How many people would you ideally like to reach with your books?

I would like to reach as many people as possible. I would like to reach the woman that is running and feeling as if she is about to take her last breath before passing out due to the weight of her issues. I would like to reach the man who is ready to give up. I would like to reach the teenager who is hurting silently, not knowing who to turn to for help.

What has been the biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date?

The biggest challenge and frustration during the process to date for me is second guessing myself. I will write and rewrite something several times before feeling as if it properly states with clarity what I am trying to express to readers.

What’s your biggest strengths when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

My biggest strength when it comes to book writing is my passion for what I am sharing. With publishing, my biggest strength is not giving up when something doesn’t makes sense to me. My biggest strength when it comes to marketing is absolutely believing in my product.

What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to book a) writing, b) publishing and c) marketing?

My biggest weakness when it comes to book writing is overthinking what I am writing, letting it stress me until it is the way I want it. With publishing, my biggest weakness is not always knowing which direction I should take. My marketing weakness is that I always want to give away my books without charging for them. That’s why I had to put someone else over that particular task.

When do you think you will write your next book?

My next book(s) have already been written and will be published next year.

Are you self published or did you use a hybrid publisher, or a traditional publisher?

I am currently self-published but looking to transition to a traditional publisher in the upcoming year.
